Noodle Love

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I have always been a big fan of noodles. Rice noodles, pasta (particularly linguine or Fettuccine), ramen or MAMA noodles as they call the Thai version of ramen (instant noodles).

Unfortunately, it is on the list of unfavorable carbs for the zone/Paleo diet I have adopted. And after a month or so I wasn’t even interested.

But I still hold the noo-noo’s in high regard. So I wanted to pay tribute to these long, limp glutinous (sometimes? always?) strips that can taste so fantastic in a variety of dishes.

Let us have a moment of silence in appreciation of the Great Noodle.

Wasabi Fried Rice

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Warms your stomach and might burn your nose. Instructions below. =))

When you are sauteeing the onions, meat and spices to throw your rice in, add some wasabi. Mix around VERY WELL or you will be in a world of hurt when you unsuspectingly chew and swallow a lump of wasabi later when eating. Then add some leafy greens.

Then toss the rice in and keep mixing. Maybe add some soy sauce (low sodium for me heh) or something. Throw an egg in towards the end (it cooks itself on the heat of the rice and the pan), stir vigorously to break up and cook the egg to eradicate gooey strands of egg whites.

This is the loose-goosy way I do it anyway. Babe knows.

And when you are done, scoop it into a bowl, pack it down and position onto a place (twice). Then draw eyebrows and a big smile with mustard. (The fine tip ingredient. Ketchup is the large tip.)

And there you have the utterly scrumptious Wise Raccoon Wasabi Rice. It is ghettorific compared to the Modern Day Hermit’s food but there’s nothing like good hole-in-the-wall food. ;-)

Wise Raccoon Latte

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Make yourself a nice hot cup of coffee. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon, a sprinkle of nutmeg and if you feel daring enough, also a sprinkle of ground ginger. Then creamer and sugar to taste.

Cinnamon makes you more alert (supposedly, and it seems to work for me) and also stabilizes the blood sugar, nutmeg is supposed to be some kind of detoxifying agent, and ginger does something good for you too. I can’t remember exactly what at the moment. ;-)

Save yourself a couple bookas on Starbucks and instead enjoy a Wise Raccoon Latte. =D (Shown here with whipped cream.)
